392803 2005-10-04 19:37:00 It turns out that you can only have the CD-ROM pluged into IDE1, and to get the other IDE channels working you have to place the CD-ROM as master, and your main HDD as slave on the same cable. Then you can load on the motherboard drivers to get the other ports working. It would of been nice if they had written that in the instructions... :illogicalFor real???? Can't say I have heard of that before, but then I am not as experienced as some of the others.

Can one of the more experienced ones please comment

392806 2005-10-05 04:03:00 I thought it was strange myself, but everyone else who has this MB had to do the same. Its all working now properly, and i have my HDD's connected to IDE2 and i'm having no problems with it, but i didn't think that you would require any software/drivers to get the IDE channels running. Very confusing, esp. since this was my first time building a computer up. zky (8997)
392807 2005-10-05 04:10:00 I would opt for a clean reinstall of Windows in this case. bk T (215)
392808 2005-10-05 04:10:00 Putting cds/dvds etc on the same IDE as a hdd, isnt a good idea.

Even tho it may work, it can cause things to go haywire / slow after Windows has been installed.

392809 2005-10-05 04:23:00 Once i got the drivers in, i changed it so the the HDD and CD-RW were on the seperate cables.

I've done a clean install of windows, but windows seems to be playing up. I downloaded SP2, but it made everything connected to the internet (IE, W Media Player) stop working and i had to do a system Restore to fix it up. Any ideas how to get over this (i've never had any problems installing XP before :badpc: )

392810 2005-10-05 04:28:00 had that happen one time with an install of sp2 onto an xp system......and well......in the end i reset it back to sp1 ......just couldnt at all get it to go anywhere on the net .....sure it'd connect but that was all it would do......and no dont bother mentioning winsock/lsp's etc etc......i tried everything drcspy (146)
392811 2005-10-05 04:41:00 thats what happening to me now . I tried to load on my firewall (i was using Kerio) and it turned my computer off :sweatdrop:

I've got these strange files that was created yesterday afternoon (i loaded XP on this morning . ) which i can't delete . The file names are the long number/letter format, and the files inside each are the same 'i386' which is in C: . Does anyone know what these files are and how to get rid of them? Or should i just try to reload on XP again? I don't know why its playing up on my this time, but it is :(

Edit: Also, when i booted my system back up from when it crashed, it went past the user screen, and just logged onto the account i was using (i have two accounts up)
