| 392813 | 2005-10-02 08:15:00 | Help (please) - my laptop (ASUS) has been working fairly well of late and was slowly working away on a Google Earth photo when it crashed . As there is no reset button I removed the battery and started up again and now it wont start . It opens as far as the desktop, flickers for a second and then goes back to the beginning, only to repeat the process . Any ideas? Thanks Challey |

| 392815 | 2005-10-02 10:04:00 | Hi I'm using Windows XP professional. By the way, I have tried using safe mode and the other options, but the result is the same - it gets as far as the desktop, but before any icons can be loaded it reboots. Cheers Neil |

| 392816 | 2005-10-02 11:09:00 | Perhaps this has to do with malfunction battery? Try using another battery . Just like you, before knowing the proper way to reset a laptop, I used to take out and insert in again the battery (how stupid) . After a while, I found that the laptop would shut down itself suddenly whenever I am using the battery without connecting to supply . It turns out the something wrong has happened to the battery . Good luck  Cheers :) |

That fact you cannot access Windows even with Safe Mode looks like you might have to attempt a repair of XP. You will need your installation (or Recovery) CD to do this. A repair will reinstall the system files but will leave your personal data alone. You will need to reinstall the MS updates and service packs that had been applied again. Let us know if you need instructions on how to perform a repair of XP. |
