393404 2005-10-04 23:45:00 HELP!

I have just accidentally deleted my backup partition.

I had forgotten where it was and i have overwritten the whole hard disk with an ext3 partition and then i realised what i had done.

Is there any hope of getting any of my 2 years worth of data back?

393405 2005-10-04 23:54:00 It has been suggested that i use insertcd and gpart but will that help me when i have overwritten the partition? Dannz (1668)
393406 2005-10-05 01:51:00 I had something similar happen to me a couple of months back, & this recovered most of my files http://support.getdata.com/
The downloaded trial version will identify the files that are recoverable and you have to buy the full version to actually recover the identified files.
Nothing to lose in seeing if it will find those files.

393407 2005-10-05 01:52:00 If you have a more than one hard drive then you can use a program called Get Back Data (or something like that) to recover the files. I have found this to be very good although there are many others (not sure about free ones) some better than others, I'm sure some other people here maybe able to suggest some other programs. 393408 2005-10-05 02:06:00 gpart may work, it cant hurt to give it a try right :)

You might not get all your data back though, thats the only thing

393409 2005-10-05 03:34:00 I am going to give the free alternative a try - gpart and then i will have a go with the un-free ones Dannz (1668)
393410 2005-10-05 05:34:00 Someone (i cant remember who) suggested testdisk to me.
It worked perfectly and all my data was recovered and its Free!

Thankyou to everyone for your suggestions
