| 393546 | 2005-10-05 05:43:00 | So I finally got the laptop going, still not sure of cause of problems.... I'm after some utilities to check the health of my hardware before I go any further.. It's running xp When I managed to reinstall windows the hard drive was partioned into 2, I choose the C drive to install on which was about 6 gig and now the rest of the harddrive formally known as D or E drive can't be found, and I would dearly like it back Please don't let my previous smart ass comments affect your willingness to help.. Thanks Ploddy |

| 393547 | 2005-10-05 09:08:00 | Have you tried using a program like Partition Magic? As far as i am aware that program will "find and see" all partitions ... doesnt matter weather they are ntfs, fat32 or any other format eg. linux ... hope that works! |

I would say all the muffing around has corrupted your FAT (file allocation table) to recover the lost space you maybe able to active them by right clicking on the My computer icon>manage>storage>disk managment . . . this will display partitioned and unpartitiond space, right click on the grey area and select the relivent action . However I would suggest removing all formatting from the HD are starting over with a clean slate . Pretend I repeat that statement here, I think its a good idea and should be done . If your trying to recover data then you will need a program that can extract the info that is rendered invisible to Windows due to lack of FAT, a google for RAW RECOVERY will bring up some capable apps, though expect the majority of the data to be garbled and unusable . |
