394399 2005-10-07 20:50:00 When trying to copy certain files about half way through i get a message saying "cannot copy file-data error (cyclic redundancy check)" what does this mean and is there any way to be able to copy these files? :help:
Thanks

394400 2005-10-07 21:00:00 Its an error either with the file you are trying to copy or the media you are copying onto. pctek (84)
394401 2005-10-07 21:01:00 Probably your hd has a few bad sectors. Run scan disk. If you have XP, right click on the hd in Explorer, select Properties, select the Tools tab, in the error checking section click the "Check now" button. In the window that opens, tick the two boxes and hit start. If its your C: drive then it might tell you it can't do it now but will do it on a restart.

If you have a different windows OS then the instructions might need to vary a little. Give us some more info on you OS and whether you are copying from a CD/DVD/HD etc.

394403 2005-10-08 01:33:00 It is a problem with the source file. A bad CRC means that the file is corrupted. So it's no use, even if you could copy it.

It won't be a problem with the destination drive. Microsoft doesn't do wimpy things like checking for errors on writes. :D

I'd suggest a system file check 'sfc /scannow' and also a drive check on next boot
