394145 2005-10-07 07:10:00 Would there be a cable that connects two computers together? Ninjabear (2948)
394146 2005-10-07 07:12:00 yes. then you network them together.but it does mean that the cable has to go over or under your nieghbours fence.might as well go wireless... Prescott (11)
394147 2005-10-07 07:14:00 The easiest way is if both computers have a network card, that you simply use a "Crossover cable" to connect them together. These are available cheap from most computer stores.

I take it when you say that your friend's computer is "His computer is next door to me.", that you mean that it's sitting right next to yours? Or is he in the house next door to yours?

394148 2005-10-07 07:15:00 We both living in the hostel and he lives in the next room.

We need a network card dont we?

How do I find out if I have one?

394149 2005-10-07 07:15:00 A crossover cable. Whats the distance between you and your friends computer? And do hostel rules allow for holes in the wall ;) Myth (110)
394150 2005-10-07 07:53:00 You could always go out the window, and back in again.

Look on the back of your computer, and look for a socket which looks like the socket on your modem, but is a tad bit bigger. It might be on your motherboard, or it might be an extra card.

394151 2005-10-07 08:00:00 oh i was under the impression of the next house down.... but easiest way would be having a wireless network. its getting pretty cheap now too. no need for drilling holes in walls. Prescott (11)

Getting cheaper, the hardware yes, the time to install if you don't know what ya doing, heaps. If the poster has to ask these questions then my suggestion would be
1 Go wireless as long as you get someone who knows how to set it up or budget to pay someone.

2 Go the cross over cable way, read the FAQ on this site and give it a go. Not that hard to do with XP.
