393825 2005-10-07 10:01:00 Before you touch drivers (& start confusing the situation), sort out the software. As others have suggested, if it has a valid Window licence, reinstall. If you don't like that idea, check the BIOS setting (*** don't flash it), do a in depth audit of what software is installed and what is actually running on the computer, have a real good look at running processes and running services then, wipe the lot three times, 0 write the hard drive and reinstall.

From there you should be sweet:thumbs:

393827 2005-10-07 10:23:00 It amazes me that so many of the solutions offered here are a reinstall when so many of us I think are people who don't have the disks anyway . Who knows where the the oem disks are? Us second-hand comp peeps have no idea where they are . What sort of world do you live in ?

I have only ever dealt with old comps without disks . "A fresh install?"

Wohoo . sounds like a breeze .

393828 2005-10-07 10:32:00 That's why piracy was invented, and following that, Windows product activation... which makes physical CD protection unnessicary.

I'm suprised more game companies don't use it, the only one I know of is valve and their steam.

Logical as people would be able to make proper backup copies if they wanted, and the program would still be safely pirate-proof.

The addition of an online check time-to-time to make sure the program had not been tampered with would work effectively too.

It amazes me so many people buy computers with NO CD and NO Product key then expect miracles when it all stops working. "Oh I don't have any CDs but you can reinstall it anyway...."

How rude. Metla has way more posts then me. Why don't you ask him if he needs work? I can be working here at the same time as I am reading/answering posts thank you very much. I'm not always sitting on my behind doing nothing.

393833 2005-10-08 02:49:00 You probably have 2 issues, its easy to add them together and assume its a system performance thing.

Issue 1
Battlefield 2 Is a memory hog, it requires OVER 1 gig of ram to run truly smoothly . BF2 poor performance on 1 gig or less is a very well know issue with dozens (probably hundreds of thread) if you want to google this to confirm. Here is a link to a BF2 tweak guide that confirms what I am saying (and have seen).

www.tweakguides.com

However.....

DEFRAG Both you O/S partition and/or Battlefield 2 hard drive partition (if its different). This can make a HUGE difference to BF2, as the paging lag can hugely decrease, defragging and memory is the two biggest factors especially when your Video and CPU is pretty good specs for BF2.

Issue 2.

Your video 100% CPU utilisation is more than likely a poor or out of date Codec. Try uninstalling all codec, and then install the latest version of FFDshow,Vosub and PowerDVD. DO NOT install codec packs. Scanning for spyware and viruses is also a good idea. A reinstall with the codecs I have listed may be required if you have no joy, some codecs are pigs to get rid of.
