| 393977 | 2005-10-06 19:13:00 | What game? What version of Directx does it want? What version do you currently have installed? Normally if a game wants a certain version they include it on the CD/DVD with the game - have alook at it to see. | pctek (84) | ||

| 393979 | 2005-10-07 10:39:00 | ah sorry guys, its for counter-strike source. I dont think i have the option to dispute the use of the most recent version of direct x... actually, i dont like valve anymore, they have become so pushy and powerful they remind me of microsoft so much these days... i wonder where i can get some cd keys for steam... :yuck: | bizzack (7739) | ||
| 393980 | 2005-10-07 10:58:00 | I downloaded the offline installer for DX9c, which when run just asked you where you wanted to extract the installation files, and then did just that. You had to find the extracted files yourself and run dxsetup.exe I don't know why Microsoft didn't make it automatically launch the program. |

| 393981 | 2005-10-08 03:52:00 | agent 24, where did it dwld to for you? coz it doesnt tell me at all where it is saving the files... I searched my downlaods and a few other places most of the time my downloads go directly to my desktop... | bizzack (7739) | ||
| 393982 | 2005-10-08 04:36:00 | Well when I tried it, It asked me to put in a path name, but the default one was the temp directory. (I changed it to desktop/new folder) You could try running the program again, then opening Start->run and typing "%temp%" and looking in the folder it brings up. |

If you need a CD key then don't ask here. I have a directory ( or folder ) on D: called downloads and save to there. I also make subfolders to extract zip or rar or whatever to. Try making another partition and install on C: and download to D: Keep all your data on D: and back it up using CDs or DVDs. |

| 393984 | 2005-10-08 05:35:00 | I think it's a problem using web or online installers. I hate them because they usually have no resume and if something stuffs up they like to download all over again....Like my past experiences installing XP SP1A over dialup...You can imagine the frustration of going through 8 hours of download time just to have the modem disconnect at 96%. :angry :angry :badpc: :badpc: IMHO It's easier and faster to download the full or offline installer with a download manager, even if you have dialup. |

Agreed also. You can use download managers and use them. You can download full updates like SP1 or SP2 from Microsoft or you can get CDs from Microsoft with the updates. In this case the original poster was looking for direct X and I have an idea that this is only a game issue. It may also be a video card issue in that the card does not support directX of the version required. To Bizzack. What make and model video card do you have? It may be wise to post all your system specs here. |
