394908 2005-10-10 07:34:00 yeah thanks but wont be phoning them lol, past experiences have shown them to take ages to answer the call then not answer the problem anyway, plus this is a outlook express problem not connection problem, i can load web pages download files get email online no problems. lisamarie01 (6731)
394909 2005-10-10 07:43:00 Go to tools / accounts / mail / double click the xtra account. Advanced tab.

See if this server requires a Secure connection option is ticked.

If it is, untick it.

Under the pop3 / smtp entries.

394910 2005-10-10 07:46:00 just checked above "requires secure connection" and it wasnt ticked so not that, its weird cause a week ago it was working fine, have been using it for yrs. lisamarie01 (6731)
394911 2005-10-10 07:48:00 What are u using thats Norton's?? Nortons personal firewall, or Nortons Internet Security?? Or another firewall altogether?

I know with Internet Security, an error can come up, if you're on a network, enter the DNS server ip address #'s (Under the LAN properties) .

And the DNS ips are the same as the email ip addresses (Like Ihug's are) .

Unless you add the DNS ip addresses to Intrusion details / ip addresses and unblock the ips here and add them to the Excluded computers box (In Internet Security) . Errors will keep appearing, when checking email thru OE .

394912 2005-10-10 11:08:00 Let google be your friend. Try googling "socket error 10061" and you will get a bucketload of relevant responses e.g. support.microsoft.com

Basicaly, there is a lack of communication to your pop3 port (25) but there are many possible reasons like firewalls, A/V progs etc.

Good luck.

394913 2005-10-10 11:55:00 i recently installed norton systemworks premier, also have norton internet security professional, and im sure it has something to do with those two, as when i have them both running in system tray i can download my emails but for some reason unknown to me they will just close down by themselves and then my emails wont download, have checked norton systemworks premier and settings are set to show in system tray and start up with windows, have tried taking off the email skanning, also with internet security professional, i can right click and disable it or enable it but it wont let me go into settings to change anything to see what its settings are at, so wondering if i should uninstall this? tried repairing it but then it uninstalled systemworks premier antivirus software so had to reinstall, problem still there.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks

394914 2005-10-10 19:38:00 General feeling here is that Norton can be more trouble than it is worth.
If it were me,I would delete Norton stuff, download AVG (AV) and see if that solves problem.

394915 2005-10-10 20:33:00 Hi,
Regarding Nortons antivirus etc, I have used this for about six years and rarely have had a problem---and I might add no virus has got through.
If you ring 0800442795 after abot 11 am ( we are three hours ahead of Malaysia - you will get help, albeit from people whose english is not their first language and certainly not colloquial, but they will pass you over to a tech( be prepared to wait a few minutes, who helped me this weekend.
My trouble was the auto update of Nortons was not happening, even after they had e mailed me the updating replacement software --this two weeks ago.
On Friday last I was sent to a new tech and in five minutes he identified my computer setttings did not tie in with Nortons auto update- now they do
IT WAS IN MY POOTER !!! :badpc:
