394808 2005-10-10 06:32:00 Unless a different technology battery is available that can pack more Ah into the physical space available, what you get is what you get.

i.e. if the old battery was a NiMh type, a Lithium Ion one would get more capacity, but as it is its already a lithium ion type in that model, just where would the extra capacity (i.e. larger) battery physically fit?

394809 2005-10-10 10:05:00 How do other brands do it then?

I have a Toshiba with a 4 cell as standard and get about 1 hour 30 mins with normal use, which was disappointing at first but my mother in law's Acer 3503WLMi gets the same sort of battery life.

I have ordered a 12 cell battery that is the same physical size, which leads me to believe that there is space inside the 4 cell casing?

394810 2005-10-10 22:57:00 I would say your problem is not exactly battery related.

Acer have a long history of using desktop processors that consume more enegery to cut down on costs. Mobile processors often cost 30%+ more.

I am unsure about the 3002WLMI, but I would say its a pretty good bet.

Acer do use mobile CPU's for many models, just depends on the specfic model. Certainly poor battery life is a well know side effect of using desktop processors in notebooks.

Exactly. If there is room, it will fit.

But one also assumes that if that was the case, such batteries would be available somewhere in the world?

Most cities have specialists battery shops that will repack / remake proprietary rechargeable battery packs. But you need a casing to start with.

You would be best to ask them, they may already know the answer.

The 3002wlmi uses a Moblie Sempron 2800+ processor. It's the fact that the battery isn't particularly high in capacity (4 cell, only 29Wh).

394813 2005-10-11 14:39:00 Thank you all,
I have tried a few places for a replacement 8 cell and Dick Smith has come back with avialable for $180 including GST.I found the price a little hard to beleve as it seems a little cheap,I have seen them for other Acer models for $250 plus GST,but when I rang the sales guy he said thats the price for one from Acer NZ,and since I have a trade card I will get a discount off that.
so I have taken him at his word and ordered one today,if its not right I have his e-mail and phone number to send it back,
I will post back when it arrives,
thanks again,
John.

394814 2005-10-11 18:40:00 I'd be every keen to find out how well that works John. Please post back here with the outcome, as I'm sure there's lots of us here who have the same laptop, and the same problem. somebody (208)
