| 394591 | 2005-10-08 14:11:00 | A friend of mine has a Gateway 610X MediaCenter PC and is trying to fax from it using MS FaxConsole. She can send faxes okay, but cannot receive. When attempting to receive a fax (either automatically or manually), the modem picks up the line and she can hear the ring through her speakers, but it continues to ring and does not actually pick up the call. The error message "An error has occurred whilereceiving the fax" appears in the Fax Monitor (the phone and speakers continue to ring). I have checked all settings in regard to receiving faxes compared to mine (I have XP Home SP2 and have no problems). I have also downloaded the latest driver for her modem from the Gateway web site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

| 394593 | 2005-10-08 21:23:00 | Does she have a fax machine plugged into her computer or is she using the computer as the fax machine. I had similar troubles when trying to recieve faxes when using my computer as the fax machine(eg;no external fax machine connected to my computer) when using the built in microsoft fax program. I could send them ok but I'm sure i found out that it couldn't be done. Well i never got it to work with the windows built in fax program. It maybe possible with another program like winfax, i never tried. However, if your using a MFC or fax machine connected to your computer then you will be able to recieve faxes using XP's fax program. You will need to check the settings in the consol. If you are using an exturnal device like a MFC then you might want to use the software that came with the machine, if you got some with it. |
