394838 2005-10-10 10:05:00 Neither will the usual fdisk.exe do this, but from advice received, there is an updated fdisk that will format >32GB as fat32. I have that update. But booting from that updated floppy, the external HDD is not recognised to format. Only the one C: drive is shown.

So that is the problem. Does anyone have any advice to format this drive as fat32, or just give up using it with Win98, & only with WinXP as NTFS?

What usual fdisk? The WIn98SE one will.
Also take the drive out and connect it in the PC via IDE. Fdisk and format there. Then put it back in the enclosure.
No sweat. All my drives are Fat32, inc the 120gb one which has a 101gb Fat32 partiton.
