| 395014 | 2005-10-10 18:15:00 | I'm need a Windows Xp Explorer extension that allow to view folders size as well as files size in Details view. It doesn't matter will it be freeware or shareware. But it must have following features: * easy and powerful customization (use any metrics). * (very) fast work speed. * i can use it on both my PCs with WinXP and WinXP x64 edition. Or it will be two different titles. ;) I'm searching through few freewares already but they haven't enough features and work slow (not faster than "right click -> properties"). Any suggestions? |

| 395018 | 2005-10-11 12:24:00 | Thank you but I will continue my search. This is separate application that try to replace Windows Explorer. I'm think this is not good idea and I want to see folders size directly in Windows Explorer Details view. And it's slow too (not faster than "right click -> properties"). :( As I can see there is no any good (fast and customizable) freeware solutions. May be you can suggest a shareware solution? |

| 395020 | 2005-10-11 16:30:00 | Thanks. Good solution. But I was searching too. So here is my list (with previews titles): 1) Folder Size Shell Extension [-] Slow [-] Not customizable [-] Dont work on WinXP x64 [+] Freeware Result: I dont want to use it. I have found some similar programs. 2) ExplorerXP [-] Slow [-] Separate application that tries replace Winodows Explorer. [?] Work on WinXP x64 in 32-bit emulation mode [+] Freeware Result: Only if you likes "separate solutions". This is not my case. 3) FolderSize from sourceforge.net [-] Dont work on WinXP x64 [-] Poor customization options [?] Fast but only if you dont close Explorer window. Im think that this tools is caching sizes every time when open Explorer (and use more memory :( ). This is annoying when you work hard with Explorer. [+] Sorting column [+] Freeware Result: Good. 4) ViewFolderSize Pro (http://www.moveax.com/) [-] Shareware [+] Work on WinXP and WinXP x64 as native application. [+] Really fast. [+] Easy to customize any options (metric, separator, caching etc) [+] Addition columns: sorting, percentage Result: I wish it would be freeware. ;) But this is best choose for me (especially because it supports x64 as native code). |

| 395021 | 2005-10-12 08:31:00 | Wuppo, I liked the look of that ExplorerXP. Downloaded it & installed it. However, it opens OK, but then if any folder or file is selected, there is a mesage that states: ExplorerXP has a problem & has to close. Do you want to send a report to Microsoft?... I doubt if that would be helpfull, so I say no. And it all closes. Do you have that problem? Any idea why it happens? |
