394897 2005-10-10 07:13:00 Friends,
I have an old Toshiba Tecra without network access and no CD writer, just a floppy drive and serial/parallel port. No USB on it. There is still quite some stuff, especially email, old Outlook Express 5.0. Now how can I transfer files to my other comp, a highly modern notebook. Would serial to serial work with some freeware (used laplink in the past, do not have it now). How do I achieve it? Did not find the possibility to export .pst files from Outlook express 5.0. It says MAPI error then.
Thanks for your thoughts,

Johan

Or... a huge pile of floppy disks....

394900 2005-10-10 09:23:00 Outlook Express doesn't use PST files, it uses DBX. Have a look at the help files for how to export.

Floppies are easiest if you don't have too much data. Zip them up into spanned disks and transfer in batches.

394901 2005-10-10 22:52:00 If you're scrapping the laptop, buy a USB enclosure for its disk. Plug it into the USB port of the new one, and away you go. Then format it and you've got a portable USB disk.

If you want to sell the laptop, it might be worth buying the enclosure anyway ..., I've seen them for as little as $29. Depends on how many megabytes you want to transfer.

394902 2005-10-11 04:00:00 Thanks guys!
Found an old PCMCIA network card, could use that to hang the thing in the network. Win 98 should do...... It is just that my wireless network does not see individual computers, although they all are nicely working..... even with firewalls off they do not see each other.....weird...
