394867 2005-10-10 04:23:00 Hi there

Any ideas how I can allow a thumbnail image on the net, that when clicked on to enlarge, slaps a copyright text on top of the image, making it useless for copying? Or allowing the image to enlarge but prevent it from being copied afterwards?

Im creating a website for an artist who naturally enough want their work protected.

Thanks................Jogn in Mosgiel.

394868 2005-10-10 04:29:00 The only way I know that will work is to photohshop each image with the copyright over the top. Protecting with javascript etc is easy to get around. Rob99 (151)
394869 2005-10-10 04:30:00 I would of thought putting the copyright watermark on the image before uploading it to the website would work best. You can just put it on the fullsize image and leave the thumbnail as is. There are plenty of ways around downloading/saving an image if a website has disabled the right-click context menu. Jen (38)
394870 2005-10-10 04:55:00 You could do it with the GD Library (and using Perl or PHP) to merge in your copyright wording, over the top of the enlarged version. gibler (49)
394871 2005-10-10 06:49:00 make a thumbnail with no watermark, when they click on it the full image downloads with the image watermarked through the middle of the picture.

If you stick the copyright top or bottom it can be easily cropped off and the picture reused. If you put the copyright in a plain place it can easily be cloned out as well. So a strong embossed text or watermarked text is semi transparent, or outlined only is best.

394872 2005-10-10 08:51:00 Well Ive had a bit of a think about this. If I slice the original pic into 4 equal squares, place them into a table with zero borders/paddng, then make another clear image, equal sized to the quarter of the pic, use the mouse rollover to present a clear transparent atop the portion of the image, so when its right clicked to Save Image, all they get is a clear image with nothing inside?

Thoughts please.

394876 2005-10-10 12:58:00 The problem is, as Metla pointed out, that anyone can still screen capture whatevers on the screen. WYSIWYG with screen shots. Only viable option is whacking a big ugly Copyright label over top of the pic. roddy_boy (4115)
