395370 2005-10-11 23:42:00 Just a quick question... if I want to create an XP home with SP2 disc, will I have to include SP1 in the slipstream, or just skip it and add the SP2 disc?

I have XP home (no service packs) with seperate SP1 and SP2 discs. I want to create an XP Home with SP2 disc.

Next part of the question, can I make this disc so that I can use a potential customers licence key as part of the install? rather than use my own.

This weekend I will attempt a slipstream, but just want to clear up these points first.

395371 2005-10-12 00:02:00 No SP2 includes SP1 . Just slipstream SP2 . SP2 just doesn't include Java .

BUT you can install Sun Java .

The install will usually ask for the cd key . It depends on whether the customers key is in use . And whether its been activated or not .

You maybe able to install with a diff key as long as its made for the version of XP u have . BUT activating it after maybe a problem .

395372 2005-10-12 00:43:00 AutoStreamer (www.neowin.net) is what you want. Rob99 (151)
395373 2005-10-12 11:04:00 nlite is another good slipstreaming program. You need to install Microsoft .netframework also to use it. It is full of options on what you can leave out of the disk if you want to. As SG said, SP2 includes SP1 so that's all you need. iguana (89)
395374 2005-10-12 12:40:00 Rob99 is right, AutoStreamer.

Quick, easy, no-fuss.....

Download the Network Installation of WinXP SP2. Insert the CD of WinXP (Home or Pro)
Give it about 30 minutes and you'll have a ready-to-burn ISO of a slipstreamed install CD.

Works just like a normal CD so you can run through with the clients Product Key and you wont ever have any issues about activation etc

Try downloading the VMWare Trial version. During installation (Install using the Slipstreamed CD) when it asks, use the WinXP key from the side of your box. Just dont let it try and activate itself.

This is fine because the Trial is only 14 days IIRC, and you have upto 28 to activate. That and there's only 2 between now and the weekend so you'll be fine if using it for a test-run.

Cheers

395375 2005-10-12 19:30:00 Ok, thanx for that, I had a look at the Autostreamer write ups yesterday, and downloaded it. Will give it a whirl this weekend :)

Chill - I was also told about VMWare back when I was doing my course as a way to 'install' various windows O/Ss to study them in reality. Although I didn't do it, I am thinking I will check out that app anyway

395376 2005-10-12 20:17:00 Try Nlite too.
It also has the advantage of installing MOST M$'s critical updates Pre-Install which saves a LOT of time and avoiding all those damn reboots.

Yeah, who would want MS java anyway . It would get outdated so quickly .

395378 2005-10-13 07:26:00 I agree with Vapo.

This is why we have Thumbdrives these days that can hold the setup files for things like this :)

395379 2005-10-13 08:16:00 After installing the slipstreamed OS you would then want to ht it with Autopatcher, brings it right up to date including any and all tehadd-ons you may want, from the latest media player, security patches, additional components, directx,Java, It does it all, and only requires one reboot.

It is one of the best tools I have in my arsenal (that word has much comic potentiel)
