395221 2005-10-11 04:33:00 I have just finished my first try at puttng camcorder tape to dvd,to play on the tv.The end result was that the film was distorted. I am wondering if I need to upgrade my video card. I edited the tape with the programe, Honestech Video Edition, and burnt the tape to dvd using Nero Express.

395222 2005-10-11 04:48:00 What option did u select in Nero Express?

Nerovision Express maybe better, but then some plugins need serials to get the options. The videocard should be fine. I have the same card.

Are you using Windows XP??

Have you tried Moviemaker? If u have XP?

395223 2005-10-11 06:17:00 Make sure you save it at the correct resolution and aspex ratio for you TV. Just another thing use a rewritable DVD to experiment on till you get it right.

Speedy Gonzales, I used Nerovision Express. I am using XP. I tried Moviemaker,But found I could't burn to DVD.
Trev, I didn't check the resolutions, but yes I did use a RW-DVD disc for my trials. :nerd:

395225 2005-10-11 07:59:00 How did you connect the camcorder to the PC?

Through the videocard? Or other?

Are we talking about a normal camcorder, or a digital video cam??

If a digital video cam, whats on it? USB 2? Or firewire? Or both?

395226 2005-10-12 04:54:00 More info is: I captured the tape with USB 2.0 Video capture adaptor, through a video card ( geforce fx 5200). The camera is: Sony Digital 8 Handycam ( dcr-tvr 110e ). Hoping this can explain some of my problems.
webbie. :( :(

395227 2005-10-12 05:04:00 Hmm yeah USB 2 isn't the best to capture video.

If it had firewire, it would have been better and faster transferring it to the PC.

This isnt your cam is it??

TRV not TVR110E?

395228 2005-10-12 07:35:00 I bought the camera through Trade Me,and the make is dcr-trv110e.
From what I can find out is that the 'e' stands for 'Europe'. Because in Europe they paid a 'movie fee' on the movie camera, To get away from paying this fee the camera makers had to disable a part within the camera, so that you couldn't copy the tape. After trying 2 firewire cards(with no luck) I rang Sony NZ, and they suggested that I try a USB 2.0 video capture.
Does this make sense, or is there some way I can use a firewire? webbie

395229 2005-10-12 07:41:00 Umm what happened when you tried to use the firewire??

It didnt work?

Did XP detect it? When you connected it, and switched the cam on?

Did it show a X for the firewire PCI card?

It'll definitely make a difference with firewire, if you can get it to work .

Have you still got 1 of the 2 firewire cards??

The thing with firewire, is XP detects it as a network card . You can use it as one, but putting an ip address in manually under its properties may stuff things up .

Some people do have probs with firewire working . The trick is to go into properties / TCP/IP under the firewire icon in My network places, and change it to obtain an ip address automatically (if it isnt already on this) .

DON'T give the firewire connection an ip address . Under Properties / TCP/IP .

395230 2005-10-12 08:04:00 The firewire I have; PCI Firewire 1394 Controller Card, and came with Ulead VideoStudio. After I installed the card, it showed up on my device manager,as being installed with no conflicks.I plugged the cable into the camera and pc.Turned on the camera(via power from the mains) turned on the computer, went into the ulead programe, and got the message,"cannot detect
camcorder." I also tried MovieMaker with the same result. webbie.
