395180 2005-10-10 22:26:00 Help! Thought I'd reinstall itunes after some strange error messages on trying to start itunes (which had been working fine for 4 months - until I installed some dodgy 16-bit cheap kids game) now during the install of itunes (latest version from apple) I get
"programfiles/itunes/ITdetecter.ocx failed to unregister HRESULT -2147220472"
contact your expert!
Install then continues, all the way thru to finish, but i tunes won't start - "itunes needs to close, sorry for incon etcetc"... what's going on?
I have uninstalled kids software to see if it helps...
AMD K8 althon64 3000+ on a dodgy MSI 939 pin motherboard...
any advice would be appreciated
ta.

395181 2005-10-10 22:32:00 Did you download v5 or 5.01 of Itunes??

Do any of these error numbers appear on the screen?

Interestingly, can't even start my PC in safe mode, to see if that might solve the problem... windows just comes up with message can't start in safe mode!
sigh, guess I should have bought a mac.... :waughh:

395185 2005-10-13 08:06:00 Hi Bobdog

Me again , not just doing a >bump< this time !

I recalled a thread about the dangers of iTunes v5 and went back for a look. The thread is
pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

Sal was the "whistle blower" but his comment this time is not related to the dangers of v5. Maybe he could expand a bit on this.

I am very naive on the subject so don't take too much notice but think on this - why not get hold of an old PC World CD, and instal v4 of iTunes. Hopefully Sal, and others, will comment on that thought !

Maybe of course PC World CD's don't include iTunes - then things would not work out in that respect.

Humbly yours
Misty :)
