395711 2005-10-13 12:54:00 They used to slowdown, and admitted it, but now they just "prioitize".

I get good speeds, D/L between 10-20Gig a month. Not too bad for NZ.

395712 2005-10-13 19:21:00 When did they start prioritising instead of slowing down? Greven (91)
395713 2005-10-13 19:24:00 I am stuck with Xtra for now,lets hope things improve,not holding breath. Cicero (40)
395714 2005-10-13 20:27:00 Slingshot still does the 256Kb unlimited deal as well.

$39.95 if you do at least $10 calls per month with them
or
$49.95 if you don't.

I have been told that they also restrict P2P as well.

One couldn't possibly put up with someone deciding what I download,I am a p2p person so that is that.

395716 2005-10-13 21:14:00 all my torrents come through just fine, and Mrs Metla has been known to make use of Limewire which also keeps a sizziling pace.

Though purely out of habit I do change the default ports they use on install.

Orcon (if thats who you use), don't just use prioritisation based on ports used, they have layer 7 QoS which tags packets sent and recieved, and bases them on what sort of traffic they are. It somehow figures it out. I have no idea how.

Greven: Prioritisation has been in place since late July/early August, I think. They don't limit the amount that one can download at all, or slow down p2p apps all the time, just when bandwidth is needed during peak hours.

395718 2005-10-14 03:44:00 64kbps is the broadband equivalent of dialup speed. You have been speed limited.
It happen to me once so I change my plan to 10G/month. As I don't note down my online playing time...sometimes it can be almost all night playing online BF2.

Bugger.

Guess that monthly changing of the ports is a waste of time then as well....

Anyhow, I only download at night and when Im at work so don't activley watch the progress, Though its usual for me to own new stuff when I get home from work and check in on it.....

395720 2005-10-14 06:12:00 I don't get the point of "unlimited" internet but with restrictions on p2p, when are you ever going to use that much data without p2p? imarubberducky (7230)
