| 395158 | 2005-10-10 22:22:00 | Hello All Over the last few months the power supply for south Auckland has got doggy (it use to be good, but recently we had had a far number of power dips & once time a while back we had a power dip every 3 5 mins!! For about an hour or so) & all most every time once happens my computer ( & the rest of ours) reboots & its getting annoying! Plus over the last few months I have had a few big web site design jobs & I think its just when will one of these power dips cause me to loss some work! So because of this I have been thinking of getting a UPS & I am wondering how much would one cost? & where would I be able to have a look at them? & where would I get one from? I am thinking of getting one that will last about an hour? Thanks in advance for any help :) |

Also I recently bought a good APC SmartUPS 700 on Trade Me for $100.00. It's holding up 3 PC's and gives about 15-20 mins on battery. Plenty for a smooth shutdown. |

Which one of these do you mean ( . resultspage . com/search . php?sessionid=434b0d340356c38c2740c0a87f990" target="_blank">dse . resultspage . com 6bd&site=&w=ups&submit . x=9&submit . y=7&submit=Go) Speedy? The DSE Storefront listings constantly change . Stu, you have to be careful with UPS's, they vary greatly in quality and, the stated ratings probably probably varyt just as much in the accuracy . Cheap equates to nasty in general . I'd stick with mainstream name brands, UPS and Powerware for eg . If you have poor quality power, get one with a power conditioner (although you'd have to ask Billy, GL or Goddie how effective the diff types are) and don't forget protection for ph/adsl/ethernet lines . What is you wattage requirements? 1 hour is a hell of a long time to run your system on battery backup power, it will cost you dearly $1000+ probably a lot more . |

| 395164 | 2005-10-11 02:44:00 | you need to say what spec pc you have and what type of screen . crt use a lot more power than lcd screens do . it handy to have a long battery run time but its not neccary . you can getr by with 5-10min but 30-60min is handy for riding out those minor power cuts . don't foget there are different types of UPS, mainly interactive or non-interactive tho they may have different names for it . cheapest type simplr provides battary backup, it dosn't regulate the power which means you can still suffer from brown outs . a fuly interactive ups will give pefect output reguardless of input . |

| 395167 | 2005-10-11 20:59:00 | My gaming computer only stays up for about 5 minutes on my APC Smart-UPS 700VA with brand new batteries, with no monitor, so don't expect too much from your new UPS. My server will actually last 30 minutes in comparison.. | BIFF (1) | ||
