396377 2005-10-14 23:13:00 I have a 17" monitor to dispose of. It is stuffed, and has been replaced by a nice bright colourful model. What is the best method of disposal? wotz (335)

What a stupid question.
Obvious answer: The local tip.

396379 2005-10-14 23:57:00 Gee thanks for that wonderful wee gem. I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking of something a little more eco-friendly, if there is anything.

Nore more fantastic ideas from JJJJJJ please.

There isn't.

Well you could put it out your gate and wait for someone to "recycle" it...

396381 2005-10-15 01:51:00 Put a sign "Free" on it, and someone will take it. Graham L (2)
396382 2005-10-15 02:17:00 The inorganic collection takes them if you want to wait +- a year for it to come around. Pretty sure they just end up in the tip though. There was a computer recycler in the South island I think, but they ran out of room a year or so ago. Shortcircuit (1666)
396383 2005-10-15 02:38:00 We have the same problem at my work.
In the end we found some guy who says he takes them apart to recycle them. Or they go to local schools as part of teaching computing.

Still the "monitor guy" hasn't been back for a while and there is still a relatively large pile still sitting around.

The reality is that no one would want a 15'' CRT and the 17'' or higher have to be of some good quality (and most I look at in the pile are dodgy e.g. fuzzy or dim). I don't missing carrying them around.

And yes we did put out the word they were free but even the most hardcore scavengers didn't take a look at them

396384 2005-10-15 03:53:00 ring the city council and ask them about monitor recycling beama (111)
396385 2005-10-15 04:57:00 or ring / check out CAB (http://www.cab.org.nz/) . My teacher told me that they will provide answers to virtually every questions.

Cheers :)
