Another good forum is vBulletin (this forum is a vBulletin forum), but if I remember correctly you have to pay for it, unlike PHPBB2 which is free. Alternatively, if you don't have a host there are loads of websites that do free forums hosting for you, only catch is you will have a few advertisements and might not be able to customize the look of your forum. If your on about making one from scratch then think again, a decent forum like PHPBB2 or vBulletin are VERY complex and not something thats easy to learn unless you are very experianced with PHP, CGI, MySQL and probably alot of other things, there are alot more complicated that you think....! | Adam678 (6880) | ||
| 396139 | 2005-10-14 18:32:00 | there are loads of websites that do free forums hosting for youEg www.netfreehost.com. Minimal advertising but sometimes a bit slow. | Greg (193) | ||
| 396140 | 2005-10-14 19:59:00 | You can always find a webhost using a resource like www.webhostingtalk.com where they will have opinions And about phpBB, it's a great system. It's easy to learn, has the largest support, modding and templating community out there and if you do have a problem, there are people like me at phpbb.com who are willing to help. And the price is always right, $0 for downloading, $0 for using, $0 for modifications, $0 for templates, $0 for support etc... |

| 396143 | 2005-10-15 04:35:00 | I use http://www.myhost.co.nz as my webhost. When you host with them they have a control panel (cpanel) that has included many programs that are installed with only one click. So then all you do is chose the messageboard type you want and click the link, instant board. Otherwise there are free messageboeds on the net but they usually have problems, such as adverts you have to endure, or they are slow, or they die on you. |
