397368 2005-10-18 08:26:00 I have a neighbour who when using Internet Explorer is getting the server unavailable message several times even though on my computer the pages are available. it seems to give this response too quickly. I seem to remember there was a setting for wait time before IE decided the server was not available. Can anyone help me (or my neighbour) on this one.

397369 2005-10-18 10:17:00 Are they on dialup. Is the Work Offline option unticked. Find it under the file menu. From memory as I'm setup for broadband go Tools Internet Options connections tab and I think you click on the settings button and you can change it in there.

Trevor :)Or you can go to File and make sure theres no tick beside Work Offline. To untick it, just click on it once.
The other things you can check, if on dialup, are the gateway/DNS set to auto? These are found in the Control Panel under Network Connections.

Also, if on LAN or broadband, is the gateway set to the router IP (if using just a modem, disregard this). Or using the Internet Options connection tab in IE, click on LAN, then make sure theres a tick beside automatically detect settings (I think thats how its worded from memory).
Another setting to check if on broadband, in the connections tab of IE, if you can (usually its grayed out in which case thats ok) make sure theres a dot beside 'dialup if no network connection detected'

397371 2005-10-18 18:55:00 The relevant thing here which has not been stated is whether they can access their mail pop3 server.
If they can't then it is more likely to be a firewall problem or spyware such as new.net.
