396735 2005-10-16 02:12:00 Hi guys, i've done a bit of mucking around on my system, some programmes wont open, there are lost files here there, and everywhere, and sometimes it won"t start up properly or shut down.I'm thinking that maybe i should start from a clean slate, from scratch.I have Win Me,i've made a Me start up floppy, saved what i want, and i have all the disks that come with the computer when i bought it from new 5yrs ago.
Can anyone tell how to do a clean reinstall,or point me in the right direction,i realise it will take a bit of time to do.....
Cheers

396736 2005-10-16 02:28:00 One of the disks you got with the computer might be a "Recovery CD" which is intended to restore the computer to its "As New" condition. Try booting it. It should start with a menu offering you a choice of actions to take. One will be to do a full reinstall from scratch. Or if the computer is not from one of the big manufacturers, you should have a MS installation disk for Windows ME. That should also have the range of options. (You might make sure it will offer to install from scratch: if the floppy has the FORMAT programme, boot from that and do "format c:". ;) ) Graham L (2)
396737 2005-10-16 02:42:00 The original Windows ME CD is bootable so set your CDROM to be first to first boot device in the BIOS and you hard drive 2nd boot device
Pop the CD in and reboot
When the Menu appears select 'Start system without CD support'
When the A\> prompt appears you can either use the FDISK command to delete and recreate partitions etc
After you've completed your selected options, reboot and this time select 'Start System with CD support'
Start the install and the ME disk will format the drive and begin installation

396739 2005-10-16 06:29:00 You have to find out what key to press, to get into the BIOS. It maybe F1, F2, F10, or the Delete key.

Press one as soon as you reboot. Change the bootdisk to CD. Put the CD in.

And save the BIOS settings. Hopefully, it'll reinstall ME. Once its finished, change the bootdisk back to the hard drive.

NOTE: It may say press a key on the first install, DON'T press a key after it reboots, you'll go round in circles, and be there all night, installing Windows ME.
