396666 2005-10-15 20:47:00 Hi. I need a motherboard. I put a system together with- an Intel 3E ghz CPU, an Intel d865perl MB, 1 gb Kingston ddr, .. . and a new ATI 700pro graphics card. When I booted, I got nothing. Not even a post. Intel support told me the mb did not support the cpu. Wrong AA or rev. no. What would you advise as a good mb ? Thanks, Will willcracker (7712)
396667 2005-10-16 02:18:00 Something like the Asus P5P800 (www.asus.com) should work for you. gibler (49)
396668 2005-10-16 10:38:00 My P4 3E ghz is a socket 478. How would I tell if it is a prescott or northbridge? willcracker (7712)
396669 2005-10-16 18:18:00 Dunno how u tell, whether its a Nortwood, or Prescott . Any mobo that supports up to that speed should work .

If it is a Prescott, and u decide to install XP on it, be careful as some Prescotts, once XP SP2 is installed will cause probs, without a patch .

Depends what brand u want . ASUS aint TOO bad . If whatever shop u go to stocks them .

There's also different chipsets (Intel, SIS, Via etc) .

Here's a list of 478 pin ASUS mobos .
