2015-01-21 20:41:00 | That is quite a big move for Microsoft to make Windows 10 available for free - mind you they don't really have a choice in the matter. It will be interesting to see how it affects them financially. | Webdevguy (17166) | |

2015-01-21 21:08:00 | That would be $9.99 a month | Lawrence (2987) | |
2015-01-21 21:21:00 | That would be $9.99 a month That would still be too much as it would mean that they were the only software company still charging user licensing fees for a desktop operating system.

2015-01-21 21:32:00 | Guessing they are trying to avoid Windows 7 becoming the next Windows XP, as in 10 years on it just won't die. | Alex B (15479) | |
2015-01-21 21:46:00 | Moving to the same Model as Office 365 Catch a few who think Free is good,Year 2 we want money  Not according to one of the links in the original Article. Its Free for the lifetime of the device. Microsoft said that the free upgrade will be valid for the first year immediately after the release; if you upgrade during that time, you’ll get Windows 10 for free, for the “lifetime” of your device. Which really is what the older OEM terms were, its tied to the same device. Reading a bit more on -- Welcome to the future as in the science fiction programs on TV -- GEEKS will be in and expect to see people, doing all sorts of weird things :) thenextweb.com Video shows what is coming.

I guess , with a free 10 u/g, they can quickly get Win10 to a huge market share (of installed OS's) If Win10 becomes really common, on a lot of PC's, that gives them alot of momentum for future sales . Some quite funny reader comments on some of the tech sites . Conspiracy theorists & anti MS brigade just cant help themselves :waughh: |
