1392421 2015-01-20 20:03:00 For some reason our connection at home becomes 'limited service' and we can't access the internet connection. It comes and goes at certain times of its own accord sometimes doing it a couple of times within a 10 minute period or more. We then wait and it comes back on with reasonable signal strength. Other times, very low bar strength indication which persists for a while. We had Slinsghot comment and I recall they maintain the connection is ok from their point of view. Could this be our issue in terms of a faulty wireless modem? It is at least 5 years old maybe a bit more.
Not sure what else to do so any ideas would be most welcome.
Thanks

1392422 2015-01-20 21:53:00 It could be the modem/router but difficult to be sure. Do you only use it via Wi-Fi or do you use ethernet connections as well? Do all devices have the same issue or only some of them? A lot of consumer grade routers are not reliable and some fold under heavy usage.

I have an occasional issue with my router I suspect due to overheating (putting it n a cooling fan has kept it stable for > 3months now) where my ethernet connection will show as limited connectivity and the internet won't work. Resetting the router usually sorts that out for me. Curiously though it's not consistent, sometimes wireless devices will still have internet while the PC won't and vice versa.

My setup is particularly awkward though and I'm trying to avoid changing it before fibre gets to my street next year. I have a spark supplied modem in bridge mode to an Asus modem/router running beta firmware to let it work as a router only. Tricky to get working and a pain in the butt if it falls over but it's only given me grief twice in 18 months so hopefully it will last the distance.
