This is not my own installation, I personally have surrendered to the MS account demands, but it is a nuisance getting the info from someone late at night , who probably doesn't have an account .

Even the ACER setup tried to force me to login or create an MS account . I got round this but fear I, and everyone else, have to submit to the MS tyranny and move on . After all, it is for our own good!

And I haven't even mentioned the not so subtle entreaties to use an MS account for the OS!

Resistance is futile .

1392410 2015-01-20 08:55:00 Is it Office 2013 OR Office 365 ?

The programs are the same but not in how you have purchased them.

Office 2013 you don't need an account, all you need is the product key, when installing you select the option to activate with a Product key. Office 365 needs an account so they have somewhere to charge you the yearly subscription as well as other functions relating to 365.

From MS:
Office 2013 suites include applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; they are available as a one-time purchase for use on a single PC.

Office 365 plans also include the applications plus other services that are enabled over the Internet, including online storage with OneDrive and Skype world minutes for home use. Office 365 plans can be used on PCs, Macs, Windows tablets, and iPads®. Office 365 plans are available as a monthly or annual subscription.

Your Microsoft account is the combination of an email address and password that you use to sign in to services like Hotmail, OneDrive, Windows Phone, Xbox LIVE, and Outlook.com.

You must be signed in with this account to install and manage your Office software, or to use some subscription benefits, including OneDrive storage and Skype world minutes.

If this is on a Manufactures PC, then it will already be pre installed using the OPK from the factory. (OEM Preinstallation Kit )

1392412 2015-01-20 20:04:00 Very helpful. What part of "This is not my own installation" don't you understand? linw (53)
1392413 2015-01-20 20:08:00 Thanks, WT, it is Office 2013 Home and Student. I can't find any download page that doesn't require an MS account. I'll get in touch with the owner and get an MS account established this morning and move on.

Cheers.

Nope,
If people would just buy the full product, with the install CD (not the download version) instead of what the Noel Lemmings guy tried to sell them, there wouldnt be any issue
Nor any need to sign up, sign on & struggle.

Never had any issues when we sell or install Office, the Full version with install CD.
Those with the download version, or Office 365 & they cant remember the login/pass used for the a/c 365 is bound to , what a drama trying to sort that out.

Try this
products.office.com

I pretty sure you dont need a MS a/c , unless its Office 365 etc.
Otherwise, just make a new MS a/c online (its easy & free) . Make sure you keep a record of the login/pass.

1392416 2015-01-20 23:03:00 Thanks, 1101. That was an address I tried and it needs an account sign in.

Anyway, now got the account created and all go.

1392417 2015-01-21 00:07:00 Good you got it sorted :) Wonder if the lazy buggers didn't put the full OPK on ?

Just thought I'd try and see, loaded in the full OPK I had gotten last year - 2 . 5GB,
6157
disconnected the internet, it asked for a product key, then installed fine . No internet required . There was two options, install / Create via an Account or "no Thankyou" .

1392418 2015-01-21 00:25:00 Yea, maybe it is the 'partner centre' thing that allows a download sans MS account?

The owner is in the education sector and just got a cardboard sleeve with a 'credit card' thingy where you had to scratch the strip to reveal the product code! Bit disappointed as I was hoping I might win a jackpot!

Cheers and thanks, guys.
