1391759 2015-01-09 13:54:00 Hi today my pc hard drive got corrupted , luckily i managed to restore it back to factory settings . The problem i came by i notice the internet explorer is pretty old like ie8 when i think it should be ie 11 which is the latest .

What i did - went to microsoft site , did download ie 11 . I got message saying " this operating system is not supported and you need windows sp1 or server 2008 r2 SP1 to install internet explorer . The pc has genuine windows 7 and is sp1 .

So can anyone help me out ????

Will it update by itself ?????

Thanks

1391760 2015-01-09 19:15:00 Check for updates with windowsupdate. If it brings up an error when it tries to install, tell us what the error is Speedy Gonzales (78)
1391761 2015-01-09 21:48:00 Yep run updates Via windows updates. There are other updates that need to go in first. One of them usually will be an update for the actual Update engine, without that nothing will update. The one installed is out of date.

Also check the date and time are correct, had one the other day it was showing the year 2048 ;)

1391764 2015-01-10 08:06:00 Avast can be causing problems Seen it happen several times in the past) , uninstall it and see if the sites work OK.

If something has gone wrong with SP 1 , there may be other previously unseen problems as well.

Programs like Comodo sometimes need the inbuilt firewalls configured to work. Some try to auto setup, and a high percentage of the time fail.

Example: Trend micro Internet security, often creates its own network connection, remove the program and sometimes the internet stops -- this is because it doesn't remove the network setting and since the program is no longer installed everything comes to a halt.

Hey Wainuitech i did say before i didn't have any antivirus including avast and the problem was seen happpening . I'm writing this message on another computer which is a laptop and same problem but it was a hp driver which didn't instal just one of them , others worked fine . So it's like if i install 10 programs one has failed .

I didn't seen any problems with sp1 before , i only came to notice it when my pc was reset to factory reset . As i said before sp1 was not configured was so thats why windows and other update failed . Now it's working fine .

Thanks
