Is this a good ph ?? Seems quite cheap at $286
It has dual sim, 5" screen & gorilla glass . May be issues with camera lens being too easily scratched

I have a Samsung Express at the mo, but this Asus has dual sim & a better screen. No 4G , but Im not sure I need that .
Dual sim could prove very usefull when my 10 year old work ph dies.

Does anyone here have one of these Zenphones?. Is the display easy to read outside in the sun?
whats the real batt life on standby ?

I like the samsung touchwiz interface on my older Express, seems less busy . I dont like all the bundled samsung apps that cant be removed &
my Samsung will NEVER get an android update.
Do Asus put out Andoid updates for their mid tier ph's

Cheers

1380036 2014-07-25 09:27:00 They are a really good midrange android phone. Doesn't hold up to the top-end Samsung and HTC options, but for about 1/3 the price they are awesome value. inphinity (7274)
1380037 2014-07-25 21:24:00 I saw these just the other day and thought they looked like a great phone for the price.
Seriously considering getting one to replace my ageing iPhone 4.

Impressive specs, especially for the price.

1380039 2014-07-26 22:01:00 Nice find, seems worth it. How did you find out PB tech sell it? Did search on the site - nothing unless if you type in the Zenfones name. If I had known PB tech sell them, I would have got one rather than another Samsung.

I see it's running a Intel atom processor (www.cnet.com) (news launch) (as opposed to mediatek/qualcomm), probably one of the first, and may be why it's relatively cheap as a new mobile phone entrant for Intel/ASUS. I think also they have been dumped in India - an emerging mid tier or budget market. Here it's a parallel import it seems.

Android updates seem to be regular when Google owned Motorola mobiles, but now sold to Lenovo. Reviews do say will update to Kit Kat, but don't know about here in NZ.

I signed up for PBTechs emails . You see the occasional bargain in their emails.
Im guessing it will be a parallel import, so not sure how that will effect any Android update .

I see. I subscribe to The Warehouse, and their phones are the standard Samsung's and few others. Was not really aware that pc shops sell mobiles, let alone PB tech. I drive pass the Manukau store a few times daily. Will visit today and other local importers that have popped up lately. Wonder if PBTech import them direct or buy through another company.

They will be importing them directly, as they do with a lot of other products they sell.

OK thanks. The Intel Atom Z2580 specs (goo.gl) (PDF) used for the Zenphone 5 if anyone interested.
