| 1379462 | 2014-07-18 02:31:00 | "Most but not all of the cuts will be from businesses Microsoft took on through its acquisition of Nokia earlier this year, which added about 25,000 workers," So why did MS buy Nokia ?? Just for the Brand name it seems. What they perhaps should have done: kept the Zune hardware in production & build on its rep with geeks (supposedly a good product),eventually turn the zune into a phone (ie ipod =>iphone) Accept that market share takes some years to achieve (ie have patience & faith : like Samsung) chopping & changing every other year will not help . Forcing changes that Joe Average didnt want or like wont help. |

I'm not saying that's the case with Nokia but it could be. Nokia has great engineers and probably a number of useful patents to its name, but other than that it is on its way out as a company. From MSs point of view the buy was probably a Hail Mary pass in attempt to get them in to the smart phone market. As far as competing goes, MS is fine in big business with its enterprise decisions made by IT depts but when it comes to chasing or creating consumer crazes around new products MS is basically clueless and will continue to be clueless until the cows come home. |

It's like one department designs something and doesn't think about any other division of the company |

A company which is providing valuable competition in the mobile and search markets. A company with some genuinely innovative products, and a company which millions of people rely on. Maybe you just don't want your favoured company to face any competition? |

They provide competition in the corporate market but with barely 3% market share they are barely even a consideration in the smart phone market. Apple has plenty of competition from Google and Samsung. |

Apple has plenty of competition from Google and Samsung. Because we know that Google and Apple have never done back room deals to stifle innovation. I say go Microsoft and Windows Phone. A third choice is always nice, and hopefully their market share keeps steadily increasing. That doesn't mean I wish either Android or IOS to become irrelevant, for the same reason I want WP to succeed. I'd be interested to hear a good reason as to why it would be bad for WP to succeed? |
