1379898 2014-07-24 01:12:00 Then tell us what the shortfall is and I'll fix it.

As Chill points out it's just a matter of balancing the books which seems to be little understood these days.
Yep, just a matter of balancing the books - losing a few billion a year is going to help with that

As to the shortfall? I can try and find exactly how much we spend per year, but it'd be pretty hard to find. However, if you read this - www.nzherald.co.nz - you'll see in 62 out of 122 have been settled, costing, so far, $1.4 billion. $3 billion a year in savings? No way!

Flat best method of collecting tax.

I disagree. I think a bracketed system is best.

Yep it sure is
Lets not forget the books are so out of wack the govt is/was borrowing $75Million PER WEEK & is paying
$3.6Billion a year interest

So yeah, lets balance those books. Are you really willing to do what it will takes ....
Thats going to means HUGE permanent cuts in spending & increased taxes
NOT tax relief & more spending that the punters allways want & get

cutting a little bit here & there just wont do it.

No, it's not going to be easy. But cutting tax rates, and losing $3 billion a year in GST is going to blow an even larger hole in the budget.

Yes, finding the exact up to date amounts can be difficult but let’s say I’ve found half, but how about THIS (www.treasury.govt.nz). Yes it’s 2011, so the numbers will have grown, but we can’t have racism so it will have to go, along of course with the Waitangi Tribunal Gravy Train..

Make sure you read it all carefully a couple of times. ;)

And here is some of the Government’s income which wouldn’t take much manipulating to make up $3b.

Approximately $200 million a year. Only leaves $2.8 billion per year left to find, nearly there :rolleyes:

If it wouldn't take much manipulating, show me how you'd do it.

1379905 2014-07-24 03:02:00 No problem, wipe the Treaty Settlements and Waitangi Tribunal gravy train for a start. ;)

Then wipe the other Race Based costs. ;)

Job done. :)

Wouldn't it be cheaper to cut all the sport funding for professional teams?

1379906 2014-07-24 04:15:00 Binding referenda is a crock idea. A binding "war or peace" referendum in September 1939 would have seen Britain overrun by Nazi Germany before you could have said Neville Chamberlain.

Lets have a binding referendum to scrap all forms of taxation, then another to have one to one teacher pupil ratios, and another for unlimited elective surgery..........and so on and so on.........(reductio ad absurdum)

Not quite the same thing as allowing parents to choose when a slap is appropriate, I would have thought.
