| 1379888 | 2014-07-23 23:57:00 | You must be kidding. Australia put up a very compelling argument for not adding GST on unprocessed food when they introduced GST fourteen years ago. It has worked well for them and is never likely to change. As for the Conservatives Tax amendment, they are really only rearranging the scaling and you must realise that a single person earning $20,000 with nothing claimable only pays $2520 tax anyway. The CEOs pocketing over $1,000,000 a year for sweet bugger all could offset that without noticing. :D As for referendums, of course they should be binding. The Government are Public Servants in a Democracy so if we run a Dictatorship then lets admit it. Nope, not kidding. If you want to show me how we can achieve $3 billion in savings elsewhere, go right ahead. Claiming we could save anywhere near that amount buy cutting a few salaries just isn't going to cut it I'm afraid  Quote from the Conservative Party website 'If for example you were earning $20,000 per year, youd pay no tax, and be $2520 better off. Thats nearly $50 a week in your back pocket. After that everyone pays a flat tax. Real money in the hands of those that need it and know what to do with it. Letting anyone else spend it is just lunacy.' A flat tax? That's more than rearranging the scaling of the tax system. And dear me, they still haven't said how they're going to pay for this. |

| 1379891 | 2014-07-24 00:11:00 | For example - I can get a 3pack of baked beans (Watties) and a loaf of wholemeal bread, from Countdown, for $5.29. Make six servings out of that, with some bread left over - $0.88per serving, plus you have some bread left over. Maybe not the most exciting meal ever, but it does the job, is cheap, and not unhealthy! I know this, but it's these lower socio-economic people who are also not feeding their kids and sending them to school like that (Again, IMO, CYFS should get involved in 100% of those instances, but that's a story for another day). I honestly can't say "Where the money would come from", but I can imagine somebody with Colins business knowledge would have thought it through somewhat. You don't get to be successful by not balancing the books. |

You don't get to be successful by not balancing the books. I'm aware of that, I just don't think their policies are going to do anything about it. The whole reduced tax rates is really going to help mostly the rich, as they contribute a huge chunk of the tax revenue. The GST? Again, it's just vote buying, it isn't really trying to help the poor. I haven't seen either Colin on Winston say where the money will come from yet. They should put up, or shut up. Neither of those policies are cheap. |

| 1379897 | 2014-07-24 01:07:00 | With pleasure :) NZ First - GST off most food items. Conservatives - Binding referendum. First $20,000 tax free then a flat tax. Conservative for me. Flat best method of collecting tax. |
