in a nutshell, MicroSoft doesn't seem to have a clue what it is doing these days, and..............

in my opinion, the dogs breakfast called Windows 8 is the proof of this assertion.

He is meaning the surface table. not the handheld surface.

1379255 2014-07-17 20:34:00 What do you see as a market for the worlds biggest comprised table costing $10,000US?
Not a market as such. It will generate huge revenues for the legal fraternity when Apple sues for flagrant copyright theft of the principle of wildly overpriced computing equipment lacking a genuine reason for existence; a distinctive and essential part of Apple's marketing modus operandi since ages ago. ;)

I can't understand when you have the best brains in the world at your disposal how you come with 8, total mystery.

not just Win 8 ...

Server 2012 essentials, also has that stupid tile interface that system admins just wont want to use.(Although it defaults to Desktop)
And no start menu....on a sever system.
And no exchange, as was in the old SBS Server's .
What are you thinking MS , small companies running SBS2003 ,they will be thinking: why even bother upgrading to Sever Essentials. Just buy a NAS .

1379258 2014-07-19 16:09:00 Yes, years ago I read that MS used to test new versions of Word on day to day typists to see how they used it, so that they could limprove it.

Looks like they have forgotten to do this with operating systems (and the ribbon)

Option #1
Possibly somebody at M$ HQ piped the recycle bin to an install file .
Somebody said "WTF"
Someone else said "Wait . . . "
Person #3 said "W 8? I can't stomach that . Get rid of it, NOW!"
A fourth person, happening to be from marketing had it packaged and advertised .
They are all so relieved it has gone, they raced out and bought a phone company . Once they get winwhone on those nobody will be able to ring them and complain .

Possibility #2
Understandable enough; if you found some copies of W8 on your desk, wouldn't your instinct be to put 'em on Trademe? (Once you'd run out of enemies to give it to . ) Recyclers wouldn't want it, there's nothing you can make it into, and you couldn't put it in the rubbish, they have standards to maintain . Easy answer, risking a copyright suit, take a leaf from Apple's book and market it heavily . Unfortunately they forgot to put the price high enough to excite the fanboys .

I like the ribbon, a great UI improvement if you ask me.
