| 1391777 | 2015-01-10 21:12:00 | Vince I must apologize that your topic has been hijacked,it was not my intention to do so. Secondly I fully acknowledge Wainuitech expertise he has an avast knowledge when it comes to all things computer related, but I feel he has some how misinterpreted my comments. 1. I do not believe that Lab test are the be all and end all of Antivirus testing, nor have I implied this.I do believe however and my reading has backed this up, that Avast is one of the best antivirus programmes out there and sadly there is no free version of Nod 32 or Kaspersky. 2. As someone who has used Avast for the last 14 years,I know it is not perfect, nor have I said that it is,in fact if I had the wear-worth all I would chose to use Kaspersky, but thats another story. 3. I suggested that anyone who needs a antivirus should do as much reading and research as possible and not be influenced by one source, that was the point of my link to Google re Avast antivirus.I remember at one place I worked at the 'Tech' consultants would recommend a different antivirus every year, not based on what was the best, but I suspect, that which was the most profitable to them. 4. My point re Avast Add-ons is that I have experienced issues with it as far as downloading programmes via the internet whilst this is enabled Vince could disable (if installed) and see if that makes a difference. It did for me. So good luck Vince.I hope you find an answer to the issues you face on your computer.Cheers |

| 1391778 | 2015-01-10 21:40:00 | Vince needs to reply to provide details. As I mentioned in post#3, something else is going on. To repeat what I mentioned before "if a high percentage of downloads are being marked as infections the makers of the program would fix it." Something is causing Avast to say downloads are infected. A person has to step back and look at the complete picture, avast warning may be the last point of the problem. Basically comes down to a few things: settings are at an extreme to stop everything, infections on the PC ( seen that happen many times thus all downloads are marked as infections) OR they are actually dodgy downloads/programs from dodgy sites. I fully acknowledge Wainuitech expertise he has an avast knowledge when it comes to all things computer related:o Now now, I dont. There are a LOT of people who know a lot more than me. Some things I have a lot of experience in others I dont, or have a clue. OR as my FB says I'm better at google than you :D Thats the beauty of IT - theres so much one can do and learn. |

| 1391779 | 2015-01-11 22:28:00 | Can anyone tell me how to let Avast Know that their software is Blocking the most benign of downloads? What download. From where ? Perhaps its not as benign as you think ? Perhaps the website has added other PUPs to that download. or Just turn off the AV, download & install , turn AV back on. And sent the downloaded file to virustotal.com , see if it really is bad. |
