1391929 2015-01-11 06:01:00 So for Christmas, I got a new case/PSU/graphics card. I proceeded to move my motherboard, hard drive and CD drive over to the new case. At this point, the graphics card is not installed, so that's not the problem. I got everything hooked up and, after some frustration, it turned on. However, I soon found out that my monitor wouldn't turn on. I then tried plugging in my keyboard and mouse (both USB) in the rear USB ports, but neither would come on. I proceeded to try every port to no avail. I then moved everything back to my old case and that's how I'm typing this now. I know that the power supply should be fine because the computer (including the lights and fans) turned on, and the only cords from the case that aren't plugged in are ones that have nowhere to go. I have a generic Dell motherboard (088DT1) and the case is an NZXT Source 530, so could there be an incompatibility? Should I just buy a new mobo? If I do that, will I have to buy a new copy of Windows 8.1, since my computer didn't come with a disc, or will just moving the hard drive that Windows is installed on be enough? MetalMessiah (17327)
1391930 2015-01-11 09:14:00 Check that the motherboard standoffs are all in the right place and nothing is touching the bottom of the board where it shouldn't be. Also double check you have all the front panel connectors in the right places and both power connections made. dugimodo (138)

+1

They must be positioned correctly or you risk shorting it.
Also make sure the backplate is in correctly too....

I am positive they are not, because I can remove my motherboard and put it back in my current case without messing with anything, and it works fine.

Some standoffs were missing, but after replacing them, no improvement. As for front panel connectors, everything was plugged in except for the front USB ports, because my mobo doesn't have a place for USB 3.0. The power connections must be made, because everything, including the LEDs, turn on and I am even able to open/close the disk drive.

1391935 2015-01-12 18:18:00 Everything turning on doesn't indicate all the power connections are made, the 2nd small power connector to the motherboard supplies extra power for the CPU only and if it's not made everything else will power up but the system won't start.

Try connecting only the 24 pin power connector, the 4 pin power connector, and the power button only. Don't connect anything else,no hard drives, nothing (well except kb, mouse, screen). Then see if it will start up and let you into the BIOS.

So whats different in the old case?
Did you use the risers that came with the new case or the old ones out of the old one?
Better to use the new ones.

What is in the old case that is NOT in the new one?
You say monitor didn't come on - that indicates GPU....is that connected with the correct power cable ? And if it isn't on, how do you know the KB etc isn't working?

I am using risers from the new case. As for differences, the only real difference is that the new case has about twice as many connectors coming off of it, and the front panel is usb 3 on the new one. Also, I haven't yet installed the graphics card. I'm still using the onboard graphics, and it only stops working in the new case.
