1379720 2014-07-21 02:52:00 How long have Java updates been bundling the ASK toolbar ?

I wondered how ASK took over my home page/search engine in FF , then I saw the update installer on another PC, ASK is part of the default install (has to be unticked, so its opt out rather than opt in).

Dirty sneaky rotters .
So is java even needed any more ? Maybee I should vote with my feet & remove it from all the PC's I use.

1379722 2014-07-21 03:58:00 Depends if anything you've installed needs it. I dont have or use it on the 3 desktops and 1 netbook here. Altho I cant remember the last time I installed Java the ASK toolbar being installed. Did you get it from the Oracle / Java site? Not some random site? Speedy Gonzales (78)

Was a java update , the one were java tells you you need to update.

Seems Java have bundled ASK for a while, although I had never seen it on the update before .
No better than malware . The last gasp from a company in decline ??

1379726 2014-07-22 01:25:00 ASK is part of the default install (has to be unticked, so its opt out rather than opt in). being pre ticked is common, Done two removals of that today. AGAIN- BOTH people confessed, they simply clicked Next, Next etc, didn't look what they were agreeing to or installing.

Bit like Ccleaner installs Chrome and a toolbar, Adobe Flash Player, can install McAfee scanner, and one other program I cant recall at the moment installs Trend Scanner if you're not careful and look :stare: before just clicking away.

BTW -- Malwarebytes Does not detect or remove ASK anymore (it used to). Had to run three different cleaners to get it out fully, simply uninstalling or disabling it doesn't work. (you should see all the reg entries it has buried)

1379729 2014-07-22 05:47:00 ADWCleaner and JRT. NOT impressed with Java at all. Interesting to note the offline installer does not install Ask, only the online installer. Was at someone's house the other day, it seems ever since Oracle beat Team NZ, no one likes Java...Quite funny. I've even heard people blame Larry Ellison for changing their home page. wratterus (105)
