Thanks in advance. Are you aware you can boot from the Norton Ghost disk? What do want "going from there." Are you tring to make an image of the hard drive or what? Have you installed Ghost on the laptop? |

I planned to restore an image (on a separate partition and on CDR's) after reinstalling XP Pro (long story) but didn't anticipate needing the original CD to boot. I have got a DOS boot disc from a friend, booted into that and now I'm stuck..... | wattie (613) | ||

| 397636 | 2005-10-19 06:20:00 | you need to do a search thru the harddrive for ghost.exe then copy that onto a floppy........then boot from your dos boot floppy then insert the ghost floppy and go into that and type in ghost and then tap enter .........this will bring up the dos interface for ghost......from there you can reinstall an image or make an image or whatever..... | drcspy (146) | ||
| 397637 | 2005-10-19 06:41:00 | If you have ghost already on the boot floppy.... type DIR (this will list all files/directories on the floppy. Look for ghost.exe.) If ghost.exe is one of the files on the floppy... then type GHOST (this will run the ghost.exe file enabling you to do what you want) |

| 397638 | 2005-10-19 06:59:00 | Keeping it simple: X:\ghost.exe + Enter or X:\dir name\ghost.exe + Enter, where X is the drive number for your CD and dir name is, well, the directory name in which ghost.exe is found. Depending on the version, the filename may be ghostpe.exe, but you will find all that out by looking at the contents of the CD on a working computer or by using the Dir command. Best to keep all this in the original thread by the way, stops people asking questions that have already been answered. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Billy 8-{) Won't work if he's using a DOS boot disk . His partition will be NTFS - it won't see it . Copy the ghost . exe off the hard drive onto the floppy then from the A:\ when you boot off it just type ghost . |

| 397640 | 2005-10-19 07:55:00 | Thanks to all so far but still no luck. DIR shows the GHOST.EXE file (0.97MB) but have tried X:\GHOST and X:\GHOST.EXE and get "Double Fault at eip=1d5; flags=3206 ............." Is this because of the NTFS file system? By the way, I have no floppy drive on the laptop so I have burned the 8 files to CDR. | wattie (613) | ||
| 397641 | 2005-10-19 08:22:00 | Further.....one of the DOS files is COMMAND. When I type that after the prompt I get "Incorrect DOS version" Mean anything?? | wattie (613) | ||
