398317 2005-10-22 00:59:00 I am in the final stages of choosing a new 17' LCD Monitor. One feature I am having trouble researching is the power supply. Some show this as "external AC adaptor" which is self explanatory, and some "integrated" which I assume means off the comuter's power supply unit??

Am I right in my suppositions, and which is best?

398318 2005-10-22 01:08:00 Intergrated means the power cord goes directly from the monitor to the wall socket, by-passing the need to go through an external power adapter first. Having it intergrated is much better as it saves having extra cords and items on the desk. Jen (38)
398319 2005-10-22 01:10:00 "Integrated" will mean that you plug a 230V cable into the monitor. That is preferable. External adapters get knocked off tables, the stupid plugs fall out ... Graham L (2)
398320 2005-10-22 01:14:00 External AC Adaptors seems to be out of favour these days (which is good when you have move LCDs around).

Integrated means (usually) they connect to a normal computer power supply cord (a.k.a jug plug). Depending on whether you base unit has a power supply with external output, then you could run it off your base unit. Otherwise, you just find a power strip or normal wall outlet to use.

Of course if you get an external AC adaptor, if that fails then you can just buy another one (or get it repaired) without having to open the whole LCD. But frankly they are just another part to lose or get squished.

398321 2005-10-22 02:34:00 I support Gibler here, as the power supply has an equal or better chance of failure, but is easier replaced if its an external brick.

Of the 6 LCD screens I have/have had, only 1 has an internal supply.

Of the 2 failures, 1 was the power pack.

Probably something in the ViewSonic Value series or E2 series. I'm watching for specials.
