398281 2005-10-21 22:55:00 I want to do a large download from Jetstreamgames using their free access, but having just got this new external modem I can't figure out how to change the username.

It used to be a piece of cake with my internal PCI modem, but this one doesn't seem to give me any option to change it temporarily. I hate this thing. PCI modems, contrary to a lot of opinions, are so much more efficient.

On this machine I have a D-Link DSL-302g freebie from Telecom, running WinXP Home SP2.

Thanks for any help.

398282 2005-10-21 23:13:00 I got the same ext modem free a while back when changing providers.
Its basic connection and speed was fine.

If you P2P it does not port forward correctly even though the settings are there. Tried everything including re flashing the ISP restricting firmware with the standard D-Link ver. There is a large Aussy thread I found with Dozen of peps having the same issue. It restricted all the P2P I tried, Torrents, and DC++, very suspicious if you ask me!

Seriously that thing is a hunk of junk, anybody want to buy it off me?

I would honestly say go back to your PCI modem (just like me) or buy a better ADSL router. I agree my old trusty internal PCI is great, never missed a beat, stays connected for weeks and speed and latency is exactly the same although they are generally hated.

What do you mean by free access? Are you referring to the download not counting towards your data count? Check with your ISP if you have unliminted NATIONAL traffic... if you do then there's no point in connecting to JSG with a different login name, because it won't count towards your data count anyways.

OR

Are you talking about logging in to get full rate ADSL speeds?
If the latter then I'm afraid you're out of luck. Telecom have made a few changes and one of them is that you will connect and download from JSG at the speed you pay for.

cheers

398284 2005-10-22 00:11:00 I'm now with Xtra and talking about getting downloads from the realm at same speed as my usual account, ie 2Mb/s, but without it cutting into my 10gig limit.

Whatever; all I wanted to know is how to temporarily change username with this silly modem/router thing.

398285 2005-10-22 00:13:00 It's just a fact of life that all D-Link routers, modems and whatever are the worst pieces of **** in existence. Though in the admin control panel 192.168.1.1 usually (check manual) you can change username.

Is JSG even running anymore? I thought it got changed to xtra games browser or something.

398286 2005-10-22 00:16:00 Is JSG even running anymore? I thought it got changed to xtra games browser or something. You could be right - I just checked their site and they have the following message up:

JetStream Games has closed

Thanks to everyone who has used and supported the site in the last few years. It’s not the end of the story though. Check out Xtra’s brand, spanking new Games Channel for a whole lot more stuff – including games, servers, forums content and a new Xtra Games Browser.

I wonder though if their ftp servers are still providing downloads. Just can't recall the url's.

398287 2005-10-22 00:24:00 Use your browser to access it. I believe it's default IP addr is 10.1.1.1 Enter this in your browser's address box. The username and password defaults are 'admin'. Then find where your username is stored and alter it.

Don't forget google is your friend.

398288 2005-10-22 00:37:00 Nevermind, but thanks for the suggestions. Getting my download from elsewhere. Greg (193)
398289 2005-10-22 02:08:00 10.1.1.1 for ethernet connection and 10.1.1.2 for usb connection to loginto the 'onboard' webpage interface in the modem.... then yep go there and change your name to 'user@jetstreamgames.com' and you can use ANY password drcspy (146)

I think they where ftp.jetstreamgames.co.nz ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz I think, but if you do a search back on here you should be able to find them, that is if they are still online.....
