398275 2005-10-21 22:29:00 Dear Users ,

I accidentaly deleted 5 . 5 Gb of audio files in my hard disk .
I was cheated and didnt realized what I 've done .
Next day I found what've I ve done !, but I had allready written 200 mb of new programmes in the HD !
I tried everything from Easy recovery to GetDataBack and R-Studio .
Althought the files could be recovered , but they were allready "damaged"
I am trying to save as much as possible but it seems the 200 mb destroyed the 5 . 5 gb of audio I 've delete by accident .
I am a musician and working with audio .

I hope someone really expert could help me with this ,
and save as much as possible data .

I really appreciate any kind of usefull help ,

your friend ,
Pavlos .

398276 2005-10-22 00:00:00 If the files are damaged due to the overwrite, which sounds as if its the problem, I suspect that only a professional data recovery firm may have any chance of getting them back, expect to pay a few thousand dollars though.

Large files such as audio files are frequently stored "fragmented" on a disk where they are not all in one place on the drive for each file. Therefore re-writing 200 MB could easily have overwritten some parts of many files, rendering repair very complex and time consuming even for for experts. If possible even.

But given that hard drives have a known history for suddenly dying anyway, and should never ever be relied on for safe long term storage, you surely have some backups safely stored somewhere?

398278 2005-10-22 02:10:00 system restore wont help, it only restores SYSTEM files not EVERYTHING.......use easyrecovery in ''raw'' mode it'll recover more than you could wish but you'lll then have to go rename all the files cause it'll recover them with names like 0001.mp3, 0002.mp3 0003.mp3....etc etc.... drcspy (146)
398279 2005-10-22 05:09:00 Unfortunately, as most others have already said, if you have overwritten parts of the disk with data, you have probably already lost the important information.

The moral of the story is BACK UP! Frequently!
