| 398842 | 2005-10-24 18:54:00 | Hi Guys, The P3/550/GF2/200/256ram/XP is starting to struggle :D I'm trying to do a mobo/cpu/ram upgrade for $300 :o I realise the 939 upgradability benefit but 939 locks me into an Athlon with budget blowout . So wondering if there is a 754 (agp)/Sempron (3000?) generic ram way to go ? keep the GF2 for now My psu is only 230 watts so thats prob on the block too ? any clues please ?.... cheers Pete |

I dont think you'll get the mobo, cpu and PSU for $300, if you're planning on getting a 754 or a 939 system . Altho, a 754 mobo and CPU, if its Sempron, shouldnt cost much . About $250-$260 . BUT the ram, case, and PSU, will take it over $300 . And you'll definitely need more than 256mb ram . |

GAmes? Then no, thats not enough as you haven't mentioned graphics. And yes you will need another PSU. Keep saving and do it properly, prices are going to come down shortly as all the new stuff is due out next year. |

I did mention my graphics ...its the GF2/200 point about saving and doing it properly not lost on me :) drcspy... will check that out Greven... I'm only driving GPL which is a 1998 sim with more modest pc requirements... but with the huge community updates I'll still have to turn it down :horrified cheers Pete |
