398664 2005-10-24 03:09:00 Why are 1 gig flash drives only 800MB? I understand that marketers say 1 gig is 1000 meg, but that would only account for 24 meg, not 224 meg. Greven (91)

1.Some of the space is always taken up by the firmware (the Flashdrices OS) - although 200mb seems a little high for this...
2.Some may also be taken up by a secure area for saving sensitive files - this is the case with my Kingston drive.

Hopefully you will have received a manual for the drive - this may indicate how to format the drive and recover the "secure" space.
