399520 2005-10-26 16:31:00 Tadeon and Nvidia have done a great job of confusing me with their card names and numbers.
Would some knowlegable person care to help.

What are the next steps up with AGP video cards??
I have a Radeon 9800 pro with 128 megs. I'm looking for a better quality card without changing my motherboard.

Have a look here, yes its a benchmark but its handy for a quick guide to the ranking. Those at the top are best - those at the bottom worst.

Yours is the 9 series. Then came the 10 series which they named as X. Thus X850 etc

Just out is the 11 series - X1. As in X1600, X1800 etc.

Nvidia mainly has the 6 series. 6600, 6600GT etc .Recently a few came out in the 7 series. 7800GT, 7800GTX etc.

I see your next step as a Nvidia 6800GT or a ATI X800XL if you plan to stay AGP. IF you change your motherboard to PCI-E then a 7800GT or GTX.

I wouldn't bother with a 6600GT, coming from a 9800pro its not much of a upgrade 10-20% ish.

No more NEW APG models will be released by ATI or Nvidia.
