399331 2005-10-26 01:52:00 :yuck: I recently bought a 16x DVD writer IDE Internal and are currently attempting to burn a photo slide show using Nero Vision Express that came with the DVD writer. The file size is 4gb which is less than the max for the dvd disc. I am using DVD-R imation discs brand new. The process goes along quite well transcoding the slide show but then fails to burn after this stage of at least 1hr 40 mins of transcoding. An error message says that there is insufficient virtual memory available. I have checked the virtual memory settings and set them to the highest value at 4gb, but still no joy. It seems to be limited to approx. 1.7gb and then fails.
My hard disc has a total size of 30gb in 4 partitions. C is the system partition, with D,E & F used for programs storage and data storage. F drive has 8gb free space and I created a temp file on this partion to assist with the DVD burning as the C drive has only 2mb free space. Even having trouble doing the same slide show at 2gb on DVD and also 700mb on SVCD. I have 512mb RAM on a Athlon XP2600 with a hig end graphics card.Is this a problem with the DVD writer or is it my computer that is the problem?

Anyone please help!!!!

399332 2005-10-26 02:02:00 Whats the hard drive formatted in FAT32? or NTFS??

If FAT32, it has a max of 4 gb for files.

This maybe your prob.

399333 2005-10-26 02:34:00 Yes the drive is FAT32 and yes the max is 4gb but I wouldnt have thought this would have an effect. Would this still be a problem if I wanted to burn double layer which is 8gb as the DVD writer is a dual layer machine? wiggpx (9137)
399334 2005-10-26 02:41:00 You'll have probs if u dont convert the hdd to NTFS, if u use Windows 2000, or XP .

This is if, you use any files, over 4 GB in size . while the hdd is formatted in FAT32 .

399335 2005-10-26 02:49:00 My hard disc has a total size of 30gb in 4 partitions .

You don't have to convert the whole drive - I have a friend who has C: in fat32 but he has another large partition for his movie stuff in NTFS for exactly this reason - the 4GB problem . So pick at least one partition and convert it .

399336 2005-10-26 02:56:00 As the hdd is partitioned into 4 drives , can just one partition be converted from Fat32? How can this be done?? wiggpx (9137)
399337 2005-10-26 03:11:00 Pick a partition preferably the biggest one, then in XP (if this is what you use).

Open a command prompt.

And type convert /?

It'll give you the template/commands.

399338 2005-10-27 07:32:00 I have changed the file system on the biggest partition of 12gigs to NTFS but I still cannot change the max amount of the paging file above 4 . 5gigs . Do I need to change the whole drive, all partitions?

This is the last secton of the log file that I saved after the last misburn .
