I want to run a network between 2 computers, my current one and my older 1. i have a USB modem (Dlink,DSL-200). both computers have ethernet card installed. i was wondering if it is possible to share files bothways aswell as internet on my old PC.

As long as both have LAN's onboard, and theyre connected with a ethernet cable, and configured, it should work.

399100 2005-10-25 07:14:00 how do i do that.
im trying to connect both computers but no success.
my current comps IP is 169.254.10.168 & subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 the other comp which also runs XP Pro IP address is 169.254.10.167 & same subnet mask (255.255.0.0) but when i type in \\169.254.10.168 in the run dialogue from the other computer it tells me it is unable to connect. and also it shows bytes sent/recivd but no connection.

399101 2005-10-25 07:29:00 Where did the 169.xx.xx.xx ips come from??

Go to my network places in XP.

Highlight the LAN icon / properties/TCP/IP on both. Whats it on??

Obtain an ip automatically, or is it on use the following ip address??

And did you make a new folder then share it on both??

If any firewalls are installed, you also have to configure this, to get into the other PC's folder.
