2005-10-26 01:22:00 | Rang Ihug again to reconfirm the 'connection fee'. This time I was told that there is no connection fee and on top of that I'll get a free modem as well - because I'm a new Ihug customer! What's this all about? Seems everyone is telling a different story. I have been told that technically we are a "new customer" as they are using the Bitstream network, rather than the Telecom Jetstream network. Therefore, you must sign up as "new Bitstream user", rather than simply transfering. Therefore, you are eligible for the free modem, and free connection. (well - that's what they told me anyway)

2005-10-27 12:09:00 | why is orocon better? I have heard that it's latency sucks for online gaming? is this true? | bizzack (7739) | |
2005-10-27 19:24:00 | Not anymore. I'm on orcon & my friend is on IHug. I get a better ping time than he does. Last week, we both did a tracert to our home computers from SIT. Tracing route to greven.servegame.com [60.234.154.214] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <10 ms <10 ms <10 ms 10.0.250.252 2 <10 ms <10 ms <10 ms 202.37.42.9 3 1 ms <10 ms <10 ms 50-90-3.sit.ac.nz [202.50.90.3] 4 24 ms 24 ms 26 ms vlan-1671.aksw7.global-gateway.net.nz [203.96.65 .237] 5 23 ms 23 ms * g0-1-0-4.akcr8.global-gateway.net.nz [210.55.202 .49] 6 25 ms 25 ms 26 ms orcon-dom2.akcr8.global-gateway.net.nz [202.50.2 45.242] 7 27 ms 27 ms 28 ms 60.234.9.15 I can't remember my friend's IP, so I can't show his tracert, but his actually went over to Australia before coming back to his computer.

2005-10-27 20:33:00 | Hmmm Ihug must have pulled there finger out. I remember when I had dialup through them they absolutely sucked, hence why I never went with them (or even considered them) for adsl | Myth (110) | |
2005-10-28 07:29:00 | hhmm.. orcorn.. I'll look at their plans now, and compare with ihug... you say they have better latency now? well if their plans are better then I guess I'll try and move to them.. anyone know how to get out of paying the $100 fine for braking the contract early with telescum? haha :D | bizzack (7739) | |
2005-10-28 07:32:00 | haha.. everytime i type orcon, I type it wrong... sorry, ORCON not orocon, or orocorn, or orcorn...

2005-11-13 22:23:00 | Well - I can say that I am now connected with Ihug. Very fast (downloading at very close to 2mbit/s - sitting around the 1.9mbit mark), and haven't had any issues with streaming video. A happy customer. Well worth the extra $0.00 expense for switching over from Xtra.
