400171 2005-10-29 04:05:00 Hi, how can I easily find out about my computers hardware (what brand etc) without actually opening it up and having a look. Help will be appreciated. Cheers. :) zahmad (8963)
400172 2005-10-29 04:26:00 Download a program called "Everest Home Edition", which will tell you exactly what model and brand of hardware you have, plus all the technical details.

400174 2005-10-29 05:08:00 There are 3 free ones I know of, and I think Everest is the better of them for layout and finding info. But for your playing pleasure, have a look at
Belarc (www.belarc.com) and PC info (www.majorgeeks.com)

400176 2005-10-29 06:11:00 aida32 is the older version of everest. aida sold the program to lavalys.

everest is by far the best.

400177 2005-10-29 06:25:00 BUT, for an older computer like Zahmads, then AIDA16 is even better really, as it can be run from a dos boot floppy, and you dont have to install the program into Windows.

After all once you know what you've got, the program isnt needed any more, a Windows based program is just wasting hard drive space.

400179 2005-10-30 00:08:00 Exactly the reason you should just grab everest. Metla (12)
400180 2005-10-30 00:16:00 How do you use Aida16? Thanks to you all!

Download aida16en_212.zip and unzip the file somewhere. Then copy just aida.exe (496kB) to a Win98 dos boot floppy or to a boot CD, don't bother with the other files.

Then after booting from the floppy, at the A:/> prompt type aida then [enter].

The program will run and take a little while to detect all the hardware.

Then use the page down key to scroll through the pages of information.

It will detect and list most hardware like cpu, memory, video cards, sound cards/chips, monitor, hard drives etc etc.

The beauty of aida16 is it can be used to find out whats in a computer that doesn't have an OS loaded.

Unfortunately it is no longer supported so it may not necessarily detect all newer hardwares.
