2005-10-28 21:11:00 | I can't get the "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB896688)" to install. It tries to do it, but all I get is a message saying it "failed" - no more info, no diagnostics, nuffin. I've tried it several times, all with the same result. Has anyone else experienced this, and does anyone know how to fix it? The troubleshooting link is useless. And please, no rants about don't use IE - I've heard them all before. TIA.

2005-11-01 18:44:00 | What SP is installed? 1 or 2? Does an error code appear. Something like this? 0x80242008? What about AV programs? Any running in the background? If so, disable it then try installing this update. Then enable it again. Are you using the Windowsupdate site for this update, or did you download the update, and try to install it from the hdd?

No error codes just a dialog saying the update failed to install . I have physically uninstalled AVG to be sure, and it still didn't work . I originally received it through automatic updates, but I have since tried to do it directly from the website . No good either way . The update is downloaded (it says) but it won't install . I'm now going to reinstall AVG - I get very nervous without it! |

2005-11-02 20:14:00 | I had the same problem once. Couldn't figure it out at all but just returning to Windows Update and going thru' the whole process again after a reboot fixed the prob. Next time the updates were installed. I'm on slow dial up and guess there was a hiccup with the d/l. | kakapo (5362) | |
2005-11-02 20:36:00 | Then don't use auto updates, and try to download from the windows official site. By the way, do you have the original XP installed? if it's a fake one, it may cause a problem like this. Zoomer
