400110 2005-11-02 20:38:00 you could download 'autopatcher' that'll do most of your updtes for you drcspy (146)
400111 2005-11-02 21:13:00 Kakapo - been there, done that . I've lost count of the number of times I have tried to do the install under all sorts of different conditions - none of them have worked .

Soonzome - yes it is an official copy . I've tried doing it direct from the Windows update site - no difference .

The issue is not with downloading - no problem there - it is the installing that doesn't work .

Drcspy - what is "autopatcher"?

It includes most updates for 2k/XP. But the file is pretty big.

400113 2005-11-03 00:08:00 Hi Tony. This will not solve your problem - but I had similar with Office 2003 Service Pack 2 on automatic updates. Failed on 28 September 2005, failed twice on 29 September 2005, and then regularly until installed by correctly on 15 October 2005. Mind of its own. Had somewhat similar but less failures with a Security Update for XP in July 2004. Scouse (83)

KB896688 and KB896727 can break IE, and screw up activex . On some systems . This of course means that now I have read your link, it will install at the next shutdown . :badpc:

400118 2005-11-23 03:25:00 Might it fail to install because it has "accidentally" managed to install in one of your previous attempts, or in the automatic update? Graham L (2)
400119 2005-11-23 04:29:00 Go to start/run. Type services.msc

Go down to Cryptographic services.

See if Cryptographic services is running. It MUST be running for updates to work. - Startup type - Automatic, and service status started.

Or try some of these fixes (support.microsoft.com)

If it does manage to install, and activex gets screwed up, try here (support.microsoft.com) for the fix. Its a registry fix.
